Tyler Sabiyak – Lock Haven University (Soccer)

Major:  Sports Management with a minor in Marketing

Final list of colleges:  Lock Haven, East Stroudsburg, Misericordia

Reasons for choosing Lock Haven:  “I really liked their coach. That was a big factor, and also, they have the major I want to pursue. I know a lot of guys on the team. I was there for my recruiting trip, and I just felt like it was the place I was meant to go to. It felt right.”

What was the progression that led you to playing collegiate soccer?  “I kind of always knew throughout my high school career that I had the ability. It was just applying myself and working hard to get to that next level.”

Coach Steve Detweiler says:  “Tyler had a challenging year with injuries, but he’s a kid that played through some fractures in his foot this year. Unfortunately, that kept him out at the end of the year in the playoffs. He’s a captain and a leader on the field for us. Even on the practice field when he was hurt, he was there every single day. He gave constructive criticism to the guys, focusing on the positives. He’s a three-year starter for me. The kid is hurt half the year, and he’s the second leading goal scorer of the team. It talks about the type of player that he is and what he brought to the table for us.
“I think he’s a great PSAC player. Going to Lock Haven is a great fit for him. We have two guys that graduated last year who did really well, so he’ll get to see some of his former teammates, and that will be a good experience for him. I’m just excited that he’s going to play at the next level.”
