Julia Schoenewald – Brown University (Softball)

Major:  Neuroscience

Final list of colleges:  Brown, Bucknell

Reasons for choosing Brown:  “It has a really good program for my major, and it’s a prestigious university. I loved it up there. It’s out of my comfort zone but definitely a challenge I’m willing to take on.”

What was the progression that led you to playing collegiate softball? “When I was a freshman, my mom was like, ‘Do you want to play?’ I said, ‘I don’t know.’ When I was a sophomore, I still wasn’t sure, but I decided to keep my options open and start looking at colleges and talking to coaches. Things just fell in place and started to work out, so I was pretty set from then on that I was going to play in college.”

Coach Erin Scott says: “Julia is very well rounded, and she’s involved in so many different things. She works hard, she’s focused, and she has her priorities in order. She’s a team player. She’s an all-around really nice kid that you like to see achieve this kind of success because she deserves it.
“She really cares about her teammates, and she’s driven. She’s a two-year captain and a four-year varsity player. She’s definitely a leader and sets an example for her teammates.”
