Regina Seweryn – Hartford University (Volleyball)

Major:   Political Science

Final list of colleges:  Hartford, Marymount, Assumption

Reasons for choosing Hartford:  “I loved the location – I wanted to go somewhere new, so New England would be the perfect place for it. When I went to the other schools, the tour guides said, ‘You’ll get a feeling when you find your school,’ and when I went on this campus, I felt it. The coaching staff – I feel like I’m going to learn a lot from them, and I love the girls that I met on the team.”

What was the progression that led you to playing volleyball at the collegiate level?  “I started playing volleyball in ninth grade, and I went to a lot of camps and clinics to try and learn as much as I could so I could become better and improve my skill. In 10th grade, I played for a club, and in 11th grade, I played for a bigger club – PVA, and a lot of colleges started talking to me. I got into it and excited, and I’m going to be playing in college.”

Former coach Melissa Micenec says:  “Regina’s greatest strength was her offense. She was phenomenal at the net, and she was able to play middle and outside. She was a very strong hitter and a phenomenal blocker. When I coached her, she was a junior, and she was really trying to work on her defensive skills. She was always willing to try anything. I’m a coach that pushes, so I pushed her to reach her ability.
“Regina really grew as a player and became a leader on the court. She definitely wanted to encourage the other girls. She was a team player and was an all around phenomenal volleyball player. Her serving was phenomenal. She was consistent, and she would mix it up with a jump serve. She’s just an all around strong player.”
