Nate Brown – Juniata College (Volleyball)

Major: Politics & Business

Final list of colleges:  Juniata, FDU, Hobart, Arcadia

Reasons for choosing Juniata:  “I decided on Juniata because it has a strong academic reputation and a strong volleyball program as well."

What was the progression that led you to competing in volleyball at the collegiate level? “I actually never really played volleyball until I was a freshman, and with my height and my general athleticism, I got pretty good at it pretty quickly. I started playing club, and I realized a lot of people around me were going to college for volleyball, so I should look into it, and everything fell into place.”

Coach Matt Musselman says: “Nate had a stress fracture of his back during the winter, so he didn’t play all during the club season, and he wasn’t ready to go to start our season when we started practices, so I was a little nervous because he’s the best player on the team. We go as he goes, and he got back into it pretty early. Every day I’d ask how he was doing. Our second match against CB East, I jokingly said during the jayvee match, ‘Hey, can you please get cleared?’ He said, ‘Oh, wait, I think I have something for you,’ and he was signed off to play. There’s an immediate difference in the team when he can play. He’s obviously our best hitter, but he’s our best passer too, which doesn’t necessarily show up in the stats, but that consistency when you can run an offense because you’re passing well really matters. He led us in digs as well, and if we didn’t need his offense and passing, he could very well have been our setter as well.  He has great hands, and he set for us in our district match when our setter was out with an injury. He really can do it all. I’m excited to see him play at the next level.”
