Nolan Hughes – Carnegie Mellon University (Soccer)

Major: Computational Finance & Business

Final list of colleges: Carnegie Mellon, University of Chicago, MIT, NYU\

Reasons for choosing Carnegie Mellon: “I chose Carnegie Mellon because of the team culture of the soccer team and the quantitative approach to a lot of the programs.”

Favorite Souderton sports memory: “My favorite memory would have to be playing soccer with my friends.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in soccer at the collegiate level? “I actually didn’t always want to play in college, but as I got older, I learned that the values you can learn in sports are highly taken into consideration when entering the work field, so I thought it be valuable to pursue playing in college.”

Coach Matt Benner says:  “Nolan Hughes is a really gifted technical player. He was someone who was able to play a variety of positions for us, whether it be as a target forward, as a winger, or out of central midfield. He has a real comfort on the ball and makes really, really good decisions. He gets everyone involved and was our leading assist guy for large stretches of his time junior and senior year. He just really has a real knack for the game, a real passion for the game. He’s one of our hardest workers on his own in time away from our practices, and it really showed in his play. He set a great example for his classmates, putting time in the classroom. He is a really, really bright individual and really cares about his studies and his extracurriculars on top of what he does on the field.”
