Morgan Yoder – Millersville University (Softball)

Major:  Psychology

Final list of colleges:  Millersville, Monmouth, Moravian, Arcadia

Reasons for choosing Millersville:  “I chose Millersville because educationally it has everything that I am interested in. When I went on my visit, the team was so welcoming and I liked what the program had to offer. The campus was not too big and the distance was not too far. It felt like the perfect fit!”

What was the progression that led you to playing lacrosse at the collegiate level?  “I’ve play softball basically my whole life. I started at the t-ball stage when I was three or four. I played other sports, but softball has always been my number one. When I came to high school, I wanted to focus on one sport, so I chose softball. I saw my sister go to college and play sports, and I knew that was something I wanted to do, so I looked around and found what would fit me perfectly. My coaches and the players I’ve met have helped me love the sport and continue with the sport, and I’m going to play until I stop loving the sport.”

My inspiration to become a college athlete:  “My coaches, Steph Rummel and Joe DiFilippo, have always pushed me to improve and be my best. Most of all, they have allowed me to continuously love playing softball.”

Favorite sports memory:  “Easily winning States! I remember every little detail from the bus ride there to the last second of the game. I was so happy I got to accomplish that with the team we had. I grew up playing with those girls, so it definitely was a happy ending.”

Coach Steph Rummel says:  “As a junior (on the state championship team), Morgan wasn’t a captain, but she led by through her demeanor and the way she carried herself on and off the field. She always worked to make herself a better player and to be the best, which is something you can’t really teach. Even though she’s kind of tough on herself sometimes, she always pulls through for the team, and it’s about the team.
“As the catcher, she communicates really well, and she takes control of the pitching. I let her call all the pitches, and it’s a good extension of the coach to be able to delegate that way. She did really well and led the team really well.”

Thunderbirds coach Joe DiFilippo says:  “Morgan is one of the better leaders who has ever played for me in travel, and she’s very good with the young kids.”
