Lindsey Smith – St. Joseph’s University (Lacrosse)

Major:  Integrated Health Services

Final list of colleges:  St. Joe’s, La Salle, Duquesne, UConn, Boston University, Jacksonville

Reasons for choosing St. Joe’s:  “St. Joe’s was actually my very last visit because I didn’t want to go anywhere close to home. I was in contact with the coach through my recruiter, and she asked me to come visit. I just loved the campus. I loved being in the city but not really in the city. I knew some girls on the team, and I got to walk around with them. I just liked the atmosphere.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in lacrosse at the collegiate level?  “As a kid, I played lots of sports, and when I hit high school, I knew I was going to play soccer in the fall and lacrosse in the spring, and I played club for both. I knew I wanted to play something in college but didn’t know really what sport. I was getting exposure for both, and I decided late my freshman year that I actually really liked lacrosse. I had great opportunities with my team with the coaching styles I was getting. I only played high school soccer the rest of my years, but I played club lacrosse year round for STEPS Philly Elite.”

Coach Maggie Canavan says:  “Lindsey stood out from day one her freshman year. She’s a natural leader, both vocally and by example. Her work ethic, her tenacity and ‘never give up’ mentality is what makes her stand out. Her teammates look up to her in every way possible. It has been my pleasure watching her grow as a player over the last four years. St. Joseph’s University is extremely lucky to have her, and all I can say is I’m more than excited she’s playing locally. I cannot wait to see her succeed in the future as a Hawk.”
