Springfield's Schmidt Playing Soccer at Catholic University

On Tuesday, May 24, 2023, Springfield Township senior Peter Schmidt was recognized for committing to continue his soccer career at Catholic University.

Peter Schmidt – The Catholic University of America (Soccer)

Major: Psychology

Final list of colleges: Catholic, St. Joe’s, Bryant, Roanoke

Reasons for choosing Catholic: “They have an all-around really good athletic program, highly ranked for Division 3. They have great academics, and it’s ideal to be closer to home 2 ½ hours away, and the school is beautiful.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in soccer at the collegiate level? “My dad played Division 1 soccer, and I always knew I wanted to play college soccer at a very young age, and it stuck with me.”

Coach Dan Meder says: “Peter’s been part of Spartan soccer since he was a little kid – he used to run the balls for us on the sidelines because his older brothers came through the program, so the family has been a Springfield Spartan family, and Peter is the best of the bunch. He’s quick, he’s got great ball skill, he knows the game, so he can do it all. He could play any position you need him to play. He could play striker, he could play defense, and you could probably put Peter in the goal, and he’d be good. He was a terrific player, a terrific kid. In the postseason when the games were on the line, he became a terrific leader for us. I don’t have enough good things to say about him.
