Matt Stauffer – Babson College (Basketball)

Major:  Business

Final list of colleges:  Babson, Scranton, Rochester Institute of Technology

Reasons for choosing Babson:  “Everything was great – the team was great, the campus was beautiful, and I had a lot of fun up there on my visits, but the main factor was their education was something I couldn’t pass up. It’s really an amazing education program that’s not matched anywhere else.”

What was the progression that led you to playing basketball at the collegiate level?  “It’s always been a goal of mine to play in college. Before my injury, I felt like I could have gone to a higher level than I’m going to now, but after I tore my ACL, I feel like that really pushed me back. I missed a whole summer of recruiting, and I had to rebuild my strength.
“I feel like everything happens for a reason, and this is going to be a great opportunity for me because basketball isn’t everything, and I’m going to get a great education for my future.”

Coach Erik Henrysen says:  “Matt is a four-year varsity basketball player. I only had him for three years, but just the passion he has for basketball – it was clear. He set a goal to be a college basketball player, and it’s nice to see him get to reach that goal.
“Matt really does everything well. Initially, he was an inside threat, and then he extended that threat to the outside. He really didn’t want to be a one-dimensional basketball player where it was just being a big guy. He really prided himself on picking up those guard skills, and that’s what he did best. Babson is definitely getting an all-around student athlete. They’re going to get a great guy on the court. I think Babson is getting a steal. He’s going to contribute to their school on the court, of course, but also the things he gets involved in here at East. He’s just going to really improve their whole school community and the overall environment at Babson.”
