Amber Steigerwalt – Ursinus College (Field Hockey)
Major: Biology/Pre-Med
Final list of colleges: Ursinus, Catholic University
Reasons for choosing Ursinus: “It was the best academic and athletic fit for me. I settled on D-3 because I want to major in pre-med or biology, and I know they have a great program there. Just being affiliated with Philadelphia and all the great hospitals there, I think it would be a good choice.”
What was the progression that led you to playing field hockey at the collegiate level? “It always has been a dream. I never thought it would be possible because I knew my studies would be really difficult going into pre-med. This past season just growing so much through my great coaches – I definitely thought it could be a possibility.”
Highlight from your playing days at Central Bucks South: “Definitely the district championship game. It was the most surreal game ever. It felt like the longest game we ever played – it was so cold, it was never ending, and then we finally ended on this one great play.”
Coach Jeff Harding says: “Both Coach Schmucker and I believe the team worked extremely hard and they earned every inch of their accomplishments with Amber being a big part of that. Being a late bloomer, she had the opportunity to play alongside some talented players, which – in the end – allowed for great on-field chemistry and her own growth within the sport. We wish her the best of luck at the Division 3 level.”
