Suzanne Swanicke – La Salle University (Softball)

Major:  Business/Finance

Final list of colleges:  La Salle, Robert Morris, Penn State

Reasons for choosing La Salle:  “Mostly because of the coach. I felt really comfortable with him. He’s a great guy, and I kind of liked the idea of going close to home so I could go home for occasional visits just in case I get homesick.”

When did you start thinking about playing collegiate softball?  “Probably my sophomore year. That’s when I played for Sports Connection, and that’s when I got serious. My coach from that team said, ‘You’re on this team to get a scholarship for college softball.’ That’s when I started focusing on one sport and put all my time and effort into softball, trying to work to where I am today.”

Coach Frank McSherry says: “She’s another kid that can play so many positions, but we just like her at first base. She was one of those four sophomores that took us to a state championship game where we were one bad inning away from winning a state championship with the four of them playing the infield. The power she has is unbelievable. She’s probably the strongest kid on the team. She can be a beast, and I say that in a great way, and she’s great defensively too. She has really, really quick hands, which is good. She’s been a catcher in her career, so she has good hand-eye coordination.”

La Salle coach Ron Shoemaker says:  “Suzanne is a middle of the lineup hitter who can play multiple positions defensively, which makes her so very valuable to the team.”
