Vanessa Tancini – Stockton University (Softball)

Major:  Biology

Final list of colleges:  Stockton, Bryant, Holy Family, Washington & Jefferson

Reasons for choosing Stockton:  “When I went to Stockton, it was a beautiful campus. I talked to the coach, and she was really understanding with academics because that’s very important to me. She was a very good coach and explained to me my role on the team, and I really liked her approach.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in softball at the collegiate level?  “I didn’t think I was going to play softball in college because I want to become a doctor, so academics are important to me, and I didn’t think I’d be able to balance it out. I talked to some people, and I decided if I wanted to do softball – Division III would be the best way so I can balance it and still play.
“I was saying no (to college softball) up until this summer when I started talking to some of the college coaches and they changed my mind, and I decided to play.”

Coach Lisamarie Belmonte says:  “Vanessa is just an all-around leader on and off the field, a very good kid, great grades, just an all-around student-athlete. She is my starting centerfielder and either the first or second batter in my lineup, depending on the game and things like that. She just comes in and makes very clutch plays in very clutch situations. She flies around the bases and in the outfield. I just have all the faith in the world in her when she’s out in the field. She’s hard worker – comes to every workout, wants to be there. She’s highly motivated and just awesome all around.”
