Bob Bantley – Penn State University (Swimming)

Major:  Undecided

Final list of colleges:  Penn State, University of Virginia

Reasons for choosing Penn State:  “The team is a great group of guys, a very close-knit group with a lot of camaraderie. It’s just a real good program. The coaches are pushing the team to the next level. They’re looking for big things in the future, and I hope to add to that.”

What was the progression that led you to swimming collegiately? “Early on in high school, in either my freshman or sophomore year, I started definitely thinking I wanted to swim at a D-1 school. As I started to work harder and get faster, I started thinking I wanted to go to a top 25 D-1 school, and I started evaluating my options. I was contacted by Penn State very early on. Right from the beginning, I really liked the school. I know a lot of the team previously from swimming with them at dual meets. You’ve heard of the coaches. They all have great reputations, and from the beginning, it was only going to be Penn State.”

Coach Geoff Scheuer says: “Bob has an enormous personality. He is incredibly gregarious. He’s very talkative but in a very positive way. He is one of the most naturally talented swimmers I’ve ever coached, and in the past couple of years, he really took that natural talent and married it to a strong work ethic and a strong level of commitment, and it has produced amazing results. All the while, he maintains this very happy-go-lucky, exuberant type person that he is.”

Aquatic director Kate Scheuer says:  “Bob makes every day fascinating. He has a lot to say, and he’s very eager to tell you about it. His work ethic has just increased exponentially the past few years. It’s been fun to watch his maturation and watch him develop into the swimmer and person he’s become. He’s definitely become a leader, and with that boisterous personality, he needed to become that.”
