UD's Cross Signs to Play Lax at Syracuse

On Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2014, Upper Dublin senior Julie Cross signed a letter of intent to play lacrosse at Syracuse University. Cross committed to Syracuse as a sophomore, following in the footsteps of sisters Amy and Kelly, who also played lacrosse at Syracuse. Julie Cross – Syracuse University (Lacrosse)

Major:  Elementary Education

Final list of colleges:  Syracuse, Northwestern

Reasons for choosing Syracuse:  “I talked to a few schools, but I always knew in the back of my mind that Syracuse was going to be the one I ended up with, but I did keep my options open.
“It was definitely the team atmosphere at Syracuse. It helped that my sisters were on the team because I really got a feel for what everything was like. The coaches treat the players so well, and that definitely sparked my interest a lot.”

Was lacrosse always your sport of choice? “Growing up with my sisters playing lacrosse and my mom was huge in lacrosse and my dad - I started so young. I figured it would be there, but I always thought I was going to be a soccer player, but it ended up that lacrosse took most of my time. I ended up loving the sport.”

Coach Dee Cross says:  “Had Julie been our first child, she would not have committed as a sophomore in high school, but because she’s grown up seeing her older sisters do what they do, it just seemed the natural thing. She loves Syracuse, and she loves the coaching staff. It’s a known thing to us, and that’s important to us to know the girls are treated like young ladies. They have fun, and they’re very competitive. It’s surreal that this day has finally come, but it’s exciting.
“Julie has the God-given athletic body. What makes her good right now is the fact that she loves to play. I still feel she has so much untapped potential. I don’t think she’s really reached the level of competitiveness that she can. She’s doing good for a high school senior, but it will be exciting to see what she can become in college.
“I tease her because I wanted her to play college basketball because in the last couple of years she’s really become a basketball player, but she has lacrosse in her blood and in her brain. I played college basketball, and I loved it, so I was hoping of the four one of them would play, but it’s all good.”
