Jack Melville – University of Delaware (Golf)

Major:  Undecided

Final list of colleges:  Delaware, St. Joseph’s, La Salle, Bucknell

Reasons for choosing Delaware:  “I have always considered Delaware because of its reputation and location. When the coach reached out to me, it quickly escalated. I chose Delaware because it has a strong D1 golf schedule and has three excellent courses. Overall, it was a great fit.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in golf at the collegiate level?  “I started playing golf tournaments during middle school in the Philly Junior Tour events. I practiced and got better every year, so I entered into bigger tournaments. I had some success in bigger tournaments, which opened some doors.
“I really never thought I would be able to play in college, but it really struck me in 11th grade because that’s when I saw the results.”

Coach David Koch says:  “Jack was great – he was steady and consistent, and he improved each year. As a team, we relied on him. When he did well, we would do well, and he always gave his best. He was our leadoff golfer and captain for two years, our most valuable player for two years, and he’ll be a real asset at Delaware.
“You never know if he’s too high or too low – you could never tell how he’s playing. He’s got great composure for the game. Of course, he’s straight and accurate, but his composure is excellent.”
