Emma Rearson – Washington & Jefferson College (Water Polo/Swimming)

Major:  Business Administration with a minor in Environmental Studies

Final list of colleges:  Washington & Jefferson, Iona, Ithaca

Reasons for choosing Washington & Jefferson:  “It’s a small school, and I’m swimming and playing water polo. The fact that I can do both is a very big deal.  Also, it’s D3, so I still can focus on my classes. They also have a really good business program.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in water polo at the collegiate level?  “My junior year I decided to play water polo year round. I played for Princeton’s club team, and the coach said, ‘You have a lot of talent. You could go play in college.’ I was like, ‘All right, let’s see where I could possibly go.’”

Coach Chris Ianni says:  “Emma has been playing water polo for a few years, and she was our defensive specialist. It was great to have her in that position because she would help out our goalie. She was our lead communicator, and she would get a lot of steals and was able to be a force on offense as well. She’s a great swimmer, and able to play the whole game. She was voted second team all-conference, and she was a big reason why we were able to make the state tournament and get eighth overall. She’ll carry that with her at the college level, and she’ll be very successful. I have no doubt about that.”
