Cole Swiger – Bloomsburg University (Baseball)

Major:  Finance

Final list of colleges:  Bloomsburg, Ursinus, Immaculata

Reasons for choosing Bloomsburg:  “I felt the most comfortable at Bloomsburg because it offers a solid business program and competitive baseball. The coaches are supportive and want to see their players succeed.”

What was the progression that led you to playing baseball at the collegiate level?  “After putting in a lot of time in the off-seasons to improve my mechanics and mental game, I knew I was going to be able to play in college.
“Once I began playing baseball in high school, I made it a goal of mine to play in college. After my sophomore season, I started contacting coaches and attending some camps. Playing in the Carpenter Cup last summer was also a great opportunity for me to be seen by many coaches.”

Coach Ed Wall says:  “I have known Cole for years. He’s been coming to our Cardinal Baseball Clinics since he was little, and I was looking forward to the time we’d be able to have him up here at the high school. We’re very lucky to have the type of kid he is – he’s a hard working kid, and besides all the character pieces he is excellent at, he’s just an outstanding athlete. He’s a District One champion in golf, and he came out for football this season and he started on defense and was a wide receiver for us. It just speaks volumes about what kind of athlete this kid is. He’s just a joy to teach. He’s a very coachable kid, and seeing him achieve his goal of getting to that next level and playing college baseball, it’s all I’ve ever wanted for him. I’m so proud and happy to see him get there. This is his fourth year starting varsity for us. There aren’t too many kids who come in and do that, and for someone to do that, he’s a pretty talented kid, not only athletically but mentally to be able to handle that pressure as well. We’re excited to have him but sorry this is his last season with us. We have to make the most of it, and I know he definitely will.”
