Mike Freeman – Marywood University (Swimming)
Major: Biology with a Pre-Med track
Final list of colleges: Marywood, Bloomsburg, Albright, West Chester
Reasons for choosing Marywood: “The class size was definitely a big factor – it’s anywhere between 10 and 15 people. I wasn’t very fond of the big classes at some of the schools. The team jelled really well together, and they have been getting better every single year. I saw that improvement, and I thought I could improve as well at Marywood.”
What was the progression that led you to swimming at the collegiate level? “I started thinking about it 
the spring of my sophomore year. The spring of that year I started swimming at Upper Dublin Aquatic Club, and I saw a lot of swimmers that had gotten scholarships, and I was like, ‘I really want to go to college.’ I had just watched the NCAA’s, and I was like, ‘Wow, that’s a big thing.’”
Coach Melanie Rowland says: “Mike is a go getter and a serious kind of kid, but he likes to have fun, and he’s a team player. His improvement was amazing. This kid went from – I will finish the season out with a regular dual meet as a freshman to now helping other people to make it to districts and states. As of his sophomore, junior and senior year, he was a state swimmer all three years. His junior year he was part of a record-breaking relay. Honestly, it’s more his dedication and, believe it or not, his smile. He’s serious when he needs to be, and he cares – he’s a caring person.”
