Reasons for choosing Shippensburg: “It came down to Bloomsburg and Shippensburg. My sister is a senior at Shippensburg, and I have been up there a lot. I decided this is where I should be, and if I could swim, that would be great.”
What was the progression that led you to swim at the collegiate level? “I started thinking about it my sophomore year. Up until my sophomore year, I really hadn’t been dropping any times since eighth grade, so I was getting a little frustrated. Around my junior year, I was seeing massive improvements in my times. I was getting bigger, I was eating healthier and I was working out more. I qualified for states, broke a school medley relay record, and I just want to see how much further I can take it. If I can contribute to a team in any way, I would like to do that.”
Coach Melanie Rowland says: “Kane is awesome in every sense of the word. His team really respected and enjoyed watching him succeed but also they loved when he got crazy. He really could be fun. He would get in and do several thousand yards, and then he would come back and joke about this and that, but then get back into it again. Both he and Mike Freeman were captains of the team, and they did their part. They kept the team going during the ups and downs and good and bad times.”
