Becky Browndorf – University of Florida (Lacrosse)

Major:  Business

Final list of colleges:  Florida, USC, Colorado, Boston University

Reasons for choosing Florida:  “Florida’s academics, athletics and just their program really caught my attention. I loved the coaches, the atmosphere and the traditions they hold. Everything about the school caught my attention. I loved it all – the spirit, the size, the campus.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in lacrosse at the collegiate level?  “I started playing lacrosse in middle school in seventh grade, and I didn’t start playing club lacrosse until ninth grade. I had no idea if I wanted to play in college or not. It didn’t really cross my mind. I actually didn’t even think it was possible until my coach for club, Colleen Magarity, reached out and said, ‘Hey, this coach likes you.’ I was like, ‘Wow, I never knew this was a possibility,’ so then I just started working harder to see how else I could improve my game. It just all started coming together.”

Coach Dee Cross says:  “I did not have a chance to coach Becky as a freshman because that’s the one year I did not coach, but the two years that I have had her she has improved tremendously each year. She was actually a brand new player in middle school, so from starting to learn the sport to getting to where she is now and being able to play in a Division I school says a lot about her work ethic and her love of the game. Her skill level has increased, and whenever we need a lockdown defender, Becky is the one that we go to. I’m really looking forward to her senior year. I know she’s got her sights set high for herself personally. We need her to be a leader on the team because we’re going to have some younger players. Her presence on the field, her willingness to get involved in any kind of clinic - she’s always done that, and she’s going to be looked upon this year to do a lot for our team, and I know she’ll be successful next year because it’s her passion and she just works really hard at everything she does.”
