Kevin Devlin – Ursinus College (Soccer)

Major: Undecided but possibly Business/Pre-Law

Final list of colleges:  Ursinus, Widener, Scranton, Elizabethtown, Kings’ College

Reasons for choosing Ursinus:  “The reason I picked Ursinus is that out of all those schools I think they’re the strongest academically. The coach really was a personable guy – he talked to me one-on-one, and I really liked what he’s doing with the program. It came down to academics mainly. They’re in the Centennial Conference with Gettysburg, Franklin & Marshall, all great schools.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in soccer at the collegiate level?  “I always said that I wanted to go to a school based on academics first, so everything was about the academics, the student-athlete portion. It would be a bonus if I could play soccer there. Ursinus offered it. They said, ‘You’re a good enough student to come here, and also, you could probably fit into our (soccer) program really well.’ It was the best of both worlds.”

Coach Andy Meehan says:  “Kevin’s leadership both on and off the field was one of his biggest traits. He was essentially our quarterback on the field. He played that holding center mid position, which is very important. He controlled the field. He’s got excellent feet – I call it soft feet. He can move the ball. He can do all the little things that you need not just on the field but off the field as well.”
