Joseph W. Gewartowski – Rider University (Swimming)

Major:  Psychology

Final list of colleges:  Rider, Susquehanna, IUP, Westminster College, Wingate, Gettysburg, Bloomsburg, Allegheny

Reasons for choosing Rider:  “Good psychology program, great swim program, Westminster music program and proximity to home. Like my dad, I’ve been swimming and playing piano since I was very young. They are my two passions. Attending Rider allows me to continue my passions while meeting my academic goals and staying close to home.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in swimming at the collegiate level?  “It started some time ago when I began to explore swimming at college and started reaching out to coaches about potentially swimming on their team. I spoke with swimmers and coaches that have already been through the process to gain insight about the various programs that were available.”

Coach Geoff Scheuer says:  “Joe is a sprint freestyler. His best events are the 1500 freestyle. He was a state qualifier in our relays and district qualifier in individual events multiple years. I hope Joe genuinely buys into the program at Rider because he could be a tremendous asset for them as an athlete. I think he has a lot more potential left in him, and if he does the right work in the right way, the team is going to love having him there.”

About Joe:
Favorite food:
“My mother’s home-cooked pasta meals.”
Favorite movie:  The Dark Knight
Favorite music:  Led Zeppelin and Classic Rock “I like to play rock on the piano.”
