Upper Dublin's Sheaffer to Play Tennis at Messiah University

On Thursday, May 11, 2023, Upper Dublin senior Timothy Sheaffer was recognized for committing to compete in tennis at Messiah University.

Timothy Sheaffer – Messiah University (Tennis)

Major: Mechanical Engineering

Final list of colleges:  Messiah, Grove City College

Reasons for choosing Messiah:  “Messiah has a great Mechanical Engineering program along with a smaller student population, which was appealing to me. They also are a Christian college, which allows me to learn and grow with others who reflect my values. Their tennis team is also a great opportunity for me to continue to improve and use my skill.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in tennis at the collegiate level? “I have been playing tennis ever since I was about four years old (my dad is a tennis coach). Over time I slowly filtered out other sports that just were not for me, and I decided to dedicate myself to tennis.
“Around the beginning of high school, I realized that I should not just lose this talent that I have built over the years, but instead, continue to use it in college. My sister, Rebekah Sheaffer, also plays tennis at Messiah University, so I had the opportunity to speak with the coach during my first visit in the spring of 2022.”

Coach Laura Ball says: “Tim was an amazing leader this season as a senior captain. He missed one year to COVID. However, Tim, from the time he stepped on the court as a freshman was determined and was a true team player. He’s an amazing tennis player and played second singles this year. He’s a fighter, he never gave up and continued to fight through all his matches. I’m very proud of him that he’s moving on and continuing his passion playing for Messiah and very proud of Tim and all that he’s accomplished in his four years at Upper Dublin. He will be missed.”
