Albert Sungenis – Widener University (Volleyball)

Major:  Business

Final list of colleges:  Widener, West Chester, West Virginia, Temple

Reasons for choosing Widener:  “I wasn’t thinking about Widener until the coach reached out to me to play volleyball. They’re just starting up a program, so I’d be the first recruit, which I thought would be pretty special.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in volleyball at the collegiate level?  “I didn’t start thinking about it until club season this year around February. I started playing volleyball in 10th grade, and I got better really quickly. When the (Widener) coach reached out to me, that was pretty special.”

Coach Paul Choi says:  “Albert was our outside hitter. He’s naturally gifted in the fact that he’s very athletic. Once he really committed to club, that’s when things started to really take shape. He had two years of club under his belt. His first was more of a learning curve, and the next year he got a lot more repetition and quality reps. That was coming into this past season, his senior year. It was really great to see because the year before he only played in three rotations – he only played in the front row. Coming into this year, he stayed in the game the whole time, doing everything, which is hard at that level not having any back row experience. He really worked on his skills. He played a lot of outdoor, and he played club. He’s able to jump high – he’s a strong kid. His passing got a lot better, and he was able to terminate the ball from wherever he was. I’m really excited for him, and I know he’s excited too.”
