Jenn Freeman – Misericordia University (Softball)

Major:  Physical Therapy

Final list of colleges:  Misericordia, University of the Sciences, Scranton, Lebanon Valley, Arcadia

Reasons for selecting Misericordia: “when I first started the college search, I was looking for a school that would fit me academically. I wanted a school that offered freshman admittance into the physical therapy program. I visited the summer before my junior year and absolutely fell in love. The small campus and class size makes it feel like home. I also hoped for the opportunity to play softball in college. I did an overnight visit in September, and the girls on the team were all so friendly and welcoming. That’s what sealed the deal for me, even though it was my number one choice since the beginning of my junior year.”

What was the progression that led you to playing softball at the collegiate level?  “Softball has been a part of me ever since I was old enough to hold a bat. It wasn’t until seventh grade when I started watching college games on television. I joined a travel team the summer of eighth grade, and that helped me improve a lot. One of our coaches at the time was a collegiate player at St. Joe’s, and it was cool to hear all of her stories. Over the next few years, I didn’t really think about it much until I joined my current travel team, Pennsbury Gems, my sophomore year of high school. We started doing showcases to get some exposure, so I decided to reach out to some coaches. After I visited Misericordia for the first time. I made sure to reach out to Coach Probst because it felt like the right school for me. I showed interest in the school, so they decided to come see me play at a showcase. After communicating back and forth, I remember thinking, ‘Wow, I can actually do this. I can actually play in college.’ Fortunately enough, it was a really smooth and straightforward process for me.”

Coach Scott Ludlow says:  “Jenn was an outstanding hitter and first baseman – she was my cleanup hitter for four years, but what made her the best was her mental approach, her work ethic and her positive attitude. Not only did it help her but also was a huge asset to her teammates. She pumped kids up and was always staying positive. You never saw her down – it was always, ‘Hey, we’re still in this. Let’s keep fighting.’ The mental approach and leadership she brought to the team was even more important than the stuff she did on the field.”
