Sam Wheatley – University of Cincinnati (Swimming)

Major:  Business

Final list of colleges:  Cincinnati, Michigan State, West Point

Reasons for choosing Cincinnati: “The coaches – the head coach specifically was probably one of the nicest people I have ever had to deal with. I really liked the school, and I really liked the team, but the head coach – Monty Hopkins – was probably the deciding factor.”

What was the progression that led you to swim at the collegiate level?  “I’ve grown up knowing I wanted to be a collegiate athlete. When the time came, it was a pretty easy decision. Last spring was when it all started with West Point. I started on my visits, and I started reaching out to coaches. Cincinnati was the first coach I really reached out to.”

Coach Brian Palme says:  “Sam is just an overall outstanding swimmer. We can put her in any event, and she’ll excel. She’s super duper talented and has grown and matured in so many ways in her years here. She’s a school record holder, she’s scored consistently in the top five in her events when she gets to district meets. She’s been a state qualifier two years individually. She’s just an all-around stud swimmer. You can put her anywhere, and she’ll perform for you.”
