Hannah Biddle – University of St. Andrew’s , N.C. (Track)

Major:  Biology

Final list of colleges:  St. Andrew’s, Morrisville State, Cazenovia, Virginia Intermont

Reasons for choosing St. Andrew’s:  “St. Andrew’s was the only school (on the final list) that had a track team. I went down and met the coach, and he was really friendly and really welcoming. Just the overall campus – everyone was super friendly. Since I also ride, the equestrian facilities are really perfect.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in track at the collegiate level?  “I had knee surgery last year, so getting back into it – the track coach actually reached out to me. He was like, ‘When you come down, would you be interested in meeting up and talking?’”

Coach Heidi Butt says:  “Hannah Biddle had a career plagued by injury and did not even participate her junior year.  Much to everyone's surprise - even hers! - she came out in shape and focused her senior year. The change in Hannah from freshman to senior year was remarkable.  She matured as an athlete and leader.  She ended her career at Wissahickon on a high note having taken on the hurdles her senior year and developing a resilience that allowed her to look forward to continuing in a college program.  Hannah was genuinely excited and reinvigorated by her decision to participate next year.  She even emailed me this week to say that she is running 5K's this summer.  This is a HUGE change from the ninth grade Hannah who fought us on jogging a two-lap warm up.  She and I both laugh about that.  It's what you want to see in an athlete at the end of their high school career - maturity, excitement, and a willingness to embrace a new challenge.”
