Reasons for choosing Miami: “It was a great fit academically and athletically. The whole team was really welcoming, and the school is gorgeous.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in field hockey at the collegiate level? “I started 
playing field hockey in third grade, but it was not until eighth grade when I was thinking about playing for college. I got really serious with my club team, and my coaches were pushing me to try out for different teams and play in different tournaments, which really sparked something that I wanted to play in college.”
Coach Lucy Gil says: “One of the biggest things Ashley has over almost every other kid I’ve coached is her leadership skills. She was a great leader on the field. She talked to the younger girls, she put them in the right positions, and even off the field, she organized everything. I didn’t have to worry about anything. She’s just a wonderful leader.
“Her playing ability spoke for itself. She never went 50 percent. There was no dimmer switch. When she hit the ball, it was a rocket. She’s just a wonderful, sweet kid – never a harsh word out of her mouth. I think she’s pretty special. We’re going to miss her a lot.”
Assistant varsity coach Shelley Meier: “We gave her the MVP award this year. We knew before the season started that she was going to be the most valuable for so many reasons – not just her field play but her leadership, her organization behind the scenes, kind words to kids, keeping everyone positive even when we were down a goal.”
