Wissahickon's Rapoport to Continue Baseball Career at Lehigh

Wissahickon senior Blake Rapoport has committed to continue his baseball career at Lehigh University.

Blake Rapoport – Lehigh University (Baseball)

Major:  Accounting

Final list of colleges:  Lehigh, Bucknell, Lafayette, St. Joe’s, La Salle, Rollins

Reasons for choosing Lehigh:  “Lehigh is known for its academics, and I really liked when I heard about the balance between the academics and athletics.  I will be able to play many of my games in close proximity to my family.”

What was the progression that led you to playing baseball at the collegiate level?  “I think it started when I was playing American Legion and then became more serious when I was playing varsity as a freshman. My coach had told me there were some colleges interested after my sophomore season.
“During my summer season after 10th grade, I began playing with the Philly Bandits who have a great reputation placing student athletes into college, and things just picked up from there.”

Coach Shannon Gunby says:  “Blake is a player that has started for us since his freshman year.  He came into the lineup toward the end of the season and he hasn’t left our starting lineup. As a freshman, he was a very integral part of our season on a team that ended up in the district playoffs. He brought offense into a lineup that was struggling towards the end of the season and stability at third base. Blake made the transition to right field this year, and without any hesitation, he went out there and played really well for us. Blake came into our program with the goal of playing at the collegiate level and each year he has taken the steps to make that happen. He has been a two-sport athlete at Wissahickon and has taken accelerated courses.  He’s been a leader in every facet, showing our younger guys the way to go about high school in general with academics, character and also athletics.”
