Alyssa Ryan – Kutztown University (Soccer)

Major:  Biology/Pre-Med

Final list of colleges:  Kutztown, Mansfield, Pittsburgh

Reasons for choosing Kutztown:  “To be honest, I wasn’t really sure whether I was going to play soccer or not because it was a really stressful process for me. Kutztown was the first school I visited. The coach took me on a tour, and I met some of the team. I was sitting in the coach’s office with half the team, and they were all telling me how great it was there. They were all so nice, and it seemed like such a tight-knit group of people. I was like, ‘This is where I want to be. This is the kind of school I want to be at.’”

What was the progression that led you to playing soccer at the collegiate level? “I was in the middle of a game the week before I had to make my decision, and I realized how much I loved it and how much it was able to clear my head. I said, ‘I can’t live without it, so I might as well just keep playing.’”

Coach Shannon Creamer-Franke says:  “What stood out about Alyssa was not only her skill on the pitch but definitely her leadership off and on – she was definitely able to rally our team. She was a two-year captain, and I could not have imagined accomplishing the things we were able to accomplish without her as a leader.
“She was obsessed with working on moves. We teased her lovingly and said she was the ‘cutting queen’ because she would cut and cut and cut. She really worked on her ball handling.”
