Kelly Wild – Wissahickon High School (Swimming)

Major:  Undecided but considering Business or Communications

Final list of colleges:  Delaware, Bloomsburg

Reasons for choosing Delaware:  “I also considered Bloomsburg, but I knew Delaware is where I wanted to go. When I first stepped on campus, I liked how it was a town atmosphere, but it was still a very large campus.
“When I met with the coach, I really like his coaching style. It’s very similar to what I have now. Also, I really liked how the girls seemed very, very close. When I went on my recruiting trip, they seemed to have a very good balance. They would do outside things as a team, and they would also have practice as a team, so they were very close.”

What was the progression that led you to swimming at the collegiate level?  “A year or two ago, I was starting to look at colleges, and I realized swimming has always been my life. It’s what I’ve always done, so it was kind of an easy decision.”

Coach Laurie Hug says:  “She’s an awesome kid. She’s a great team player, she’s not just fast.  I would ask if she wanted to swim a certain event, and she would say, ‘Wherever you need me.’ I could put her in any event, and she could score for us. She’s a great kid.”

Coach Greg Beyer says:  “She’s just really a leader in and out of the pool. As a junior, she was not a captain but acted like one. Without anyone asking, she would do the little things that add up to success, and she’s just a great person to have on the team.”
