Carly Zlotnikoff - University of Wisconsin-Madison (Swimming)

Major: Undecided Business

Final list of colleges: University of Wisconsin-Madison, University of Miami,  University of Delaware, University of Massachusetts

Reasons for selecting Wisconsin-Madison:  I chose UW because of the great coaching staff, the amazing facilities, and its reputation for academics. Most importantly, I chose Wisco because the team was so welcoming and genuinely nice.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in swimming at the collegiate level?  “I began swimming when I was six years old, and at first it was just an activity that I liked to do, but as I got older, I began to enjoy the competition and the love for the sport and developed a passion for it. Through the years, I realized that swimming was a huge talent of mine and that I was good enough to pursue it at the college level if I wanted to.
“At the beginning of my junior year, colleges were reaching out and showing interest in me. At some of the large regional meets, the college recruiting coaches would be in the stands watching and evaluating which swimmers might be a good fit for their program. The Wisconsin coach approached me when he watched me at a swim and asked me to come down on a recruiting trip to see if I was interested in the school and if I enjoyed the kids on the team, which I did. I took a few other recruiting trips to see what I was interested in and Wisconsin was the best choice for me.”

Coach Laurie Hug says:  “We've enjoyed watching Carly progress from a strong freshman swimmer to one of the best in the district (and state) over her high school swim career. Even though she is primarily a freestyler, we know we can put her in any event, and she will most likely win. She is highly motivated, sets big goals, and knows what it takes to achieve them.”
