Coaches vs. Cancer Honors Kochersperger

Former Upper Moreland basketball coach and athletic director Gary Kochersperger was honored for his efforts on behalf of Coaches vs. Cancer.

Former Upper Moreland basketball coach and athletic director Gary Kochersperger, who is now an assistant basketball coach at Abington Friends School and is Basketball Chairman of District One – was presented with the Charles Dinsmore Award at the ‘Philly Six’ Coaches vs. Cancer Tip-Off Breakfast at the University of Penn Palestra on Monday, March 12. The award is presented to a cancer survivor who has a basketball background. In addition, Kochersperger has been a volunteer for the Coaches vs. Cancer School Initiative Committee.

Kochersperger joined the committee in 2007 when they raised approximately $45,000. The project amount to be raised for 2011-12 is in the neighborhood of $235,000. The committee continues to raise funds by helping and advising youth groups, middle schools, CYOs and high schools throughout the area. The committee is always looking to increase the number of organizations willing to hold a Coaches vs. Cancer fund raising event. ‘Shoot for the Cure’ is the ultimate goal of the Coaches vs. Cancer Program.

Presenting the award were Phil Martelli of St. Joseph’s University and Fran Dunphy of Temple University.
