ABINGTON FIELD HOCKEY PREVIEW

Coach:  Katie Small (1st at Abington, 8th year coaching – seven years prior at Jenkintown)

Assistant coaches: Jamie Westphal, Janine Larr and Bridget Fogarty

Last year’s record:  6-12 overall, 4-8 SOL National

Notable losses:  All league players Sam Magee and Kalia Brown

Key returners:  Paige Doyle (f/m – Soph), Sam Simon (M – Jr), Grace Terrizzi (m/f – Sr)

Others to watch:  Mount transfer Natalie McNamara (F – Sr), Eyvn Stewart (b – sr), Ailene Hughes (M – Jr)

Strengths/Question Marks:  “This is a very fast team and we are currently building our stamina to out run our opponents.  The team is learning a new system under a new coach.  Any time something like that happens there tends to be some bumps and bruises.”

Outlook:  “Any time a new coach comes on board, there is a learning curve.  If the girls can come together under new direction, they have the potential to do very well this year.  The work ethic they have shown thus far and their willingness to learn will help them become a competitive team this year.   The addition of Natalie McNamara from Mount St. Joseph and the return of sophomore Paige Doyle will make for a great tandem in the offensive end.  I expect Abington to surprise some teams this year.”
