Abington Girls' Basketball Preview

ABINGTON GIRLS’ BASKETBALL PREVIEW

Head Coach:  Dan Marsh 12th year at Abington 17th overall.

Asst. Coaches:  Jerry Frasca, Kathy Razler and Ayana Allen

Last Season:  The Lady Ghosts finished with a record of 21-8 and eventually lost to state runner-up Cardinal O’Hara in the PIAA playoffs.

Key Losses:  Samantha Lochner PG is now playing basketball at St. Peters. And Leah Simmons  F is now playing volleyball at Canisius College.

Key Returners:
Lizzie Oleary Sr. C, 1st team all-league and a Delaware commit.
Britney James Jr. Pg
Sam Brusha    Jr. SG
Jordyn Allen   Jr. SG
Kassondra Brown So C

Others to Watch:
Miranda Liebtag  So. Guard, Tamia Wessles  So. Guard, Camryn Lexow So Guard/Forward, Michaela Coyle  Jr. Forward

Strengths:  With O’Leary and Brown, Abington will have an inside presence that few in the area can match. Much improved Brusha and James will provide the outside punch. Abington will need to avoid being one dimensional.  Allen is back and is also a legitimate scoring threat.

Question Marks:  With only one returning senior, our young team will need to find its groove early, stay out of foul trouble and keep their heads up when things are not going their way.

Key Games: Episcopal Academy  12/19  Neshaminy 12/20 and 1/19  CR North 12/23 and 1/24 Boyertown 1/7 Perk Valley 1/21 CB East 1/6

Expectations: The Lady Ghosts hope to improve as the year develops and win the SOL National Conference and compete for District and state titles.
