Bensalem Girls' Soccer Preview

BENSALEM GIRLS’ SOCCER PREVIEW

Coach: Lew Mladjen (5th year)

Assistant coaches: Jim Rodgers (Varsity assistant), Matt Kirschner (JV head coach)

Last year’s record: 2-12 league, 4-13 overall

Notable losses: Ashlee Kohn (mid) and Megan Wajda (GK)

Key returners:  Christine Cueto (Sr./Captain/def), Bree Rock (Jr./Captain/mid), Sid Doherty (Jr./fwd), Paige Wendling (Jr./mid), Kayla Ryan (Jr./def), Carly Gonzalez (Jr./fwd), Sarah Smith (Jr./fwd), Julia Rymarczuk (Soph./def), Katie Aldrich (Soph./mid), Siani Ashford (Soph./fwd)

Strengths:  “Easily the most committed and fit team that Bensalem has produced in a number of years. The girls are very optimistic about the season to come and believe that they can compete with anyone.”

Question marks: “Health. This is the first time in five years that Bensalem begins the season completely healthy. Last year eight starters were injured by mid-season. How quickly these players return to form will determine the team’s success.”

Outlook: “This team feels like they have something to prove. Injuries have plagued many of these girls for two seasons, and this year the girls want to show the league that they can compete with anyone.”

GAMES TO WATCH:  Pennsbury – September 10 - first league game of season.
