Cheltenham Girls' Socceer Preview

CHELTENHAM GIRLS’ SOCCER PREVIEW

Coach: Mark Woodcock (10thseason)

Assistant coach: Steve Midzak

Last year’s record:  5-13 overall (4-10 in league)

Notable losses:  Carly Waldman, Willa Douglas, Anya Capps

Key returners:  D Liza Becker 12th / D Krissy Rycek 12th/ M Amber Turner 12th/ M Christina Morton 12th/ M Olivia Tuszl 12th/ M Paige Kytzidis 12th/ F Dana Shelton 12th/ F Ruby Tomasic 12th/ GK Eliana Weiler 11th

Others to watch:  D Zoe Moreland 9th/ D Elin McLaughlin 9th

Strengths/Question Marks: Senior heavy starting lineup with a great deal of experience, very inexperienced underclassmen.  Fast and with very good understanding of the game but have a hard time against bigger, stronger teams.

Outlook:  “With a senior-heavy starting lineup, Cheltenham is in a good position to be a dark horse this year.  Defense should be one of Cheltenham’s strong points anchored by first team all-league keeper Eliana Weiler, four-year starter Liza Becker and fast rising Krissy Rycek.  Four strong, intelligent midfielders in Morton, Turner, Kytzidis and Tuszl should provide a base for a quick strike attack led by Dana Shelton and Ruby Tomasic.  After three years of significant improvement, this year is Cheltenham’s best opportunity to really show they belong among the better teams in the league.”
