Cheltenham Girls' Soccer Preview

CHELTENHAM GIRLS’ SOCCER PREVEW

Coach:  Mark Woodcock (12th season)

Assistant coaches: Jenna Bird, Tia Kelly

Last year’s record:  1-17 overall (1-13 SOL)

Notable losses:  Eliana Weiler (Misericordia, Jade Turner

Key returners:  Cassie Malec - Senior Defender, Zoe Moreland - Junior Defender, Elin McLaughlin - Junior Defender, Ella Brown - Sophomore Midfielder

Others to watch:  Peri Albert- 9th grade Forward, Lola Jahss - 9th grade Midfield

Strengths/Question Marks: “An experienced back line should put us in a better position defensively and a young fast group of forwards and midfielders and forwards could provide an opportunity for goals.  Having lost a three-year starter in goal, we shall be quite inexperienced in that position.”

Outlook:  “After a couple of seasons in which we have not really reached our potential, Cheltenham could be set for a break out season.  Another year of experience for a very young group could make all the difference and the addition of a handful of 9th grade players who look like they will be able to contribute immediately means the outlook is very bright.  If we can overcome the lack of experience outside the defensive line then Cheltenham is well positioned to spring a surprise against some of the better teams in our league.”
