Council Rock South Girls' Lacrosse Preview

COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH GIRLS’ LACROSSE

Coach:  Madison Hurwitz (1st year)

Assistant coaches:  David Hurwitz (father) and Taylor Hurwitz (sister)

Last year’s record:  “The 2016 season was a struggle.  Our varsity team was 1-8 in league play and 2-15 overall, and worse, I feel like the team didn’t develop over the course of the season.  If there was a bright spot, I would have to say it was the job our Head JV Coach, Sara Foley, did developing younger players who will be contributing at the varsity level this year.  Sara is absolutely this program’s unsung hero and we feel blessed to have her on our team.”

Notable losses:

·       Anna DiDanato- Wagner College (college lacrosse)

·       Katie Rafter- Bloomsburg University (college field hockey)

·       Stephanie Jin- Penn State

·       Hannah Inchausti- University of South Carolina

      Key returners:

·       MK Simpson- Senior/Midfielder (playing D1 lacrosse at Iona)

·       Sarah Womer- Senior/Attack (playing field hockey at Shippensberg)

·       Dominique Marino- Senior/Attack

·       Tori Wright- Junior/Defender (committed La Salle D1 field hockey)

Others to watch:

·       Mikayla VanAken- Junior/Midfield

·       Caitlyn Thornton- Junior/Attack

        Shannon Lind - Junior/Defender

Outlook:
“The coaching staff and strong upperclassman leadership are working hard to create an environment/atmosphere where everyone is having a fun and fulfilling experience while at the same time developing as individual lacrosse players, student-athletes, and a team both on and off the field.  While we lack more than a few individual players capable of changing the outcome of a game on their own as many of our competitors have, we are learning how to play as a team on both ends of the field. It is the first year of both our new offensive and defensive schemes (yes, we have schemes) and while we have yet to practice outdoors, our practices are very competitive and we are developing quicker than expected. Having played D1 lacrosse at Bucknell and my sister playing the same at both New Hampshire, where she graduated a year early, and Duquesne, where she earned an MBA, one of our missions is to teach our girls life lessons that they will emulate in the real world that we have learned through the great game of women’s lacrosse ourselves. The girls are really having fun with this and I’m confident that will equate to a significant turnaround of this program in terms of both record and participation.”
