Luke Emig – Bloomsburg University (Swimming)

Major:  Undecided/Business

Final list of colleges:  Bloomsburg, Delaware, Towson, Shippensburg

Reasons for choosing Bloomsburg:  “I just thought it would be a good choice for me because I’d rather still be a someone in a D2 school than be a nobody in a D1 school. I liked all the people there – they were all really nice. The coach’s program from what I know is very good.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in swimming at the collegiate level?  “I was kind of forced to swim at a young age, but then I learned to love it. It’s just the thing I do now. I always thought I’d probably do it in college.”

Coach Kip Emig says:  “His sister swam, and when she was swimming every day at the pool when he was around four or five years old walking on the pool deck, he just jumped in one day and said, ‘I want to be on the team,’ and that’s kind of how it started. He’s always been very natural. He’s smooth in the water and just has a competitive edge to him. He doesn’t show it very much except in the pool. He swims mostly the 50 and 100 freestyle, and he’s had a very successful career. He had a gold medal in the relay his sophomore year, two silvers his junior year.
“I think Bloomsburg is a great fit. The coach at Bloom – Stu Marvin – it’s like his second career, and he’s just very similar to what we do here. It’s like a sprinting mecca up there, and he loves recruiting big, tall swimmers like Luke. I think he’s going to fit in really good up there, so I’m pretty happy for him.”
