NORTH PENN GIRLS’ BASKETBALL PREVIEW

Coach:  Maggie DeMarteleire (8th year)

Assistant coaches:  Lauren Brett and Renee Womack

Last year’s record:  SOL 12-2, Overall record  26-4      SOL Continental Conference Champions, District One AAAA Champions, lost in the state quarters

Notable losses:  Erin Maher, now playing at Philadelphia University, Vicky Tumasz, now playing at Shippensburg University, and Bri Cullen, now playing at Widener University

Key returners:  Mikaela Giuliani, Jr. F/C, Sam Carangi, Soph. G, Irisa Ye, Soph. G, and Jess Huber, Soph. G

Others to watch:  Taylor Thames, Sr. G (attending Kutztown next year, moved from Unionville over the summer), Bri Hewlett, Fr. F, Mia Melchior, Fr. F, and Taylor Putnam, Fr. G

Strengths/Question Marks:  Strengths will be speed, athleticism, and ball handling.  Question mark will be rebounding.

Outlook:  “We should be very competitive this year.  We do have several girls who were fortunate to have experienced a very memorable season last year.  With the addition of Taylor Thames and many new, talented freshmen – we believe that we will have very good balance and a relatively deep bench.  I expect us to improve throughout the course of this season.”
