Pennsbury Boys' Volleyball Preview

PENNSBURY BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL PREVIEW

Head coach:  Justin Fee (10th season as the head coach, 12th season coaching with the program. I was also a player from 1991-1994)

Last year's record:11-1 SOL National Champs, 16-3 Overall. PIAA Final 16

Key returning players:  We currently are returning our entire starting lineup from last season minus one player, our only senior starter last year (Dalton Zimmerman).
Sean Kropp, Sr. Outside hitter, 3rd team All-District One, possibly attending Harvard and playing volleyball as outside hitter (still awaiting confirmation on 3/28/13. He also was accepted into M.I.T. and will play volleyball there as well.)
Chris Spano, Sr. Outside Hitter
Neil Helsel, Sr. Middle Hitter
Spencer McCullough, Sr. Middle Hitter
Pat Merrick, Sr. Opposite Hitter, 1st team all league, 1st team all-district, PIAA Fab 40, attending NYU next season and playing volleyball as setter.
Troy Pereira, Sr. Libero 3rd team All-District One
Jeff Yasalonis, Jr. Setter 3rd team All-District One

Outlook:We had a very successful offseason playing in five AAU tournaments and winning five out of five tournaments. I finally feel that our players are playing like seniors. Maybe because they all are besides Jeff. Every player in our starting lineup has been a starter since 10th grade or at least was a strong varsity contributor. Finally, their dedication to learning the game and playing all year round has put them in a situation where they have a legitimate chance at competing for a league, district, and maybe state title. We are all very excited to get the season started, both coaches and players. I am a man who likes statistics and numbers, and in 2004 we made it to the state championship match, along with 2007 and 2010. I think you can see a trend! Every three years...hopefully, this is our destiny. If not, it is for sure a long-term goal for our season. One step at a time though: 1) Defend league title, 2) District title, 3) Put ourselves in a good position to compete for a state title and then re-establish new goals for the playoffs.

Games to watch:  @C.R. North 4/4 & home 4/30 senior night, Home vs. Neshaminy 4/16 and away 5/8 & @ Northeastern 4/12
