Pennsbury Girls' Basketball Preview

PENNSBURY GIRLS’ BASKETBALL PREVIEW

Coach: Frank Sciolla (8th year with Pennsbury Girls)

Assistant coaches: Sean Ryan, Logan Klock, kaitlin Kelly, Lou Pompili

Last year’s record:  21-9. District Final Four for the 3rd time in four years. State Sweet 16

Notable losses: Neveah Dash, Neve Davis, Izzy Ruta

Key returners:  Sofia Vitucci (1st team all SOL guard), Layla Matthias (2nd team all SOL), Daniella MacDonald

Others to watch:  Joley Hohman and Sammie Haws- both freshman guards, Maggie Burns and Ava Jordan- both junior guards, Emily Panaro - sophomore center, Danielle Sherman and Oliveah Gilchrist- senior forwards and Presly Foote- senior guard.

Strengths/Question Marks:  The senior class plays hard and smart. They prepare to win. Overall athleticism will be strong. We will not have to play as we did last year, and we absolutely will not be defended in the fashion that we were last year.  Size, as it seemingly has been for years, will be an issue and a complicating factor that hopefully will once again be solved with Fairless Hills grit and hustle.

Outlook:“Neshaminy and CR South are legitimate District 1 title threats with almost everyone returning and an influx of impressive size. Neshaminy having two scholarship basketball players that play year- round together is unique, and when adding in Amber Howard at Bensalem- the league is loaded with talent and experience. CR South is deeper than anyone outside of Perk Valley in District 1, so they will be really fun to watch.  When you add that in with our crossover games and our nonleague slate…it will be a fun year.”
