Plymouth Whitemarsh Girls' Basketball Preview

PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH GIRLS’ BASKETBALL PREVIEW

Coach:  Dan Dougherty (2nd season)

Assistant coaches:  T.J. DeLucia, Andre Strothers, Todd Rose

Last year’s record:  11-11 overall (7-7 in American Conference)

Notable losses:  Simone Jacques (NYU), Kayla Wisniewski, Nikki Casey, Maya Thomas, and Laurie Givnish

Key returners: Alynna Williams(11th grade, guard, 2nd team all conference last year), Rachel Konowal (12th, guard), Maude Orler (12th, forward), Chrissie Mesunas (12th, forward), and Cara Sweeney (11th, forward)

Others to watch: Asia Baker(12th, forward), Erin Ryan (12th, forward), Alison Spinelli (11th, guard), Khadijah Hickson (10th, guard)

Strengths: Returning players all played major roles on varsity last year. Depth and speed should be our biggest strengths this year.

Question Marks: Difficult road games, both in league and out of league

Outlook:  “Looking to improve on our .500 mark last year. Asia Baker, Alynna Williams, and Rachel Konowal are all players to watch. Baker is a 5-10 guard/forward that can score both inside and out. Konowal and Williams are both 5-3 guards that are as fast as any backcourt we’ve ever had. Team has been working hard all offseason to get in best shape they can to start the season fast. We have a very difficult league and have a very challenging non-league schedule this year. We’re hopeful with our improved depth and speed we’ll be ready to compete with everyone.”

GAMES TO WATCH: Early season road games vs. Pennridge, Wissahickon, and Chichester.
