PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH SOFTBALL PREVIEW

Coach: Mike Perez (5th year)

Assistant coaches: Alex Skivo, Emily Caffrey, Liz Baginski, John Van Wie, Toni Washington, Christine Taunton

Last year’s record: 17-9 overall (12-4 in SOL Liberty division); #12 seed in the PIAA District 1 6A standings; lost in 1st round of PIAA State playoffs to Hazleton Area HS

Notable losses: All-Area P Molly Moore (Holy Family University), Grace Carney (Gwynedd Mercy University), All-Area OF Jenna Yablon (Jr/Injury)

Key returners: All-League OF Caelin Kosvitch (Sr/Iona University commit), All-State SS Marissa Perez (Sr/East Stroudsburg University commit), All-Area OF Sam Skivo (Sr/Babson College commit), Kalina Childers (Jr-OF), All-League 3B Madison Moran (Jr-P/3B), All-Area DP Rian Reed (Jr-P/Util), All-State 2B Joslyn Perez (So), All-League C Anna Powel (So)

Others to watch: Marissa Caroluzzi (Sr/Util), Ava McEvoy (So-P/Util), Emily Dobrowolski (So/OF), Melanie Daloisio (So/C), Addie Antenucci (Fr/Util), Maddie Swift (Fr/Util)

Strengths/Question Marks: PW will rely heavily on their team chemistry and experienced line-up, returning eight starters from last year’s squad that won three games in the PIAA District 1 6A playoffs and earned the program’s first berth into the PIAA State playoffs.  The one main question mark is who will step up in the pitcher’s circle to replace 3-year starter and all-area pitcher Molly Moore, now at Holy Family University. Juniors Rian Reed and Madison Moran and sophomore Ava McEvoy will look to step up and fill that void.

Outlook: “Returning eight all-league starters to the everyday lineup, PW’s offense and defense will look to continue to improve, while the young pitching staff finds their way.  The defense is strong up the middle with all-league catcher Anna Powell, all-state middle Infielders Marissa Perez (SS) and Joslyn Perez (2B), and all-league center fielder Caelin Kosvitch.  The middle of the lineup will be anchored by all-area outfielder Sam Skivo, all-area DP Rian Reed, all-league third baseman Madison Moran, and outfielder Kalina Childers.
As with every year, the main goal for the 2024 PW softball team is to continue improving throughout the season, contending for a league/district title, and building on our PIAA State play-off appearance.”
