Souderton Girls' Track & Field Preview

SOUDERTON GIRLS’ TRACK & FIELD PREVIEW

Head coach:  Mike Feliciani, 3rd year

Last year's record:2-5

Key performers lost:Allison Gallagher the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles; 4x400 relay – She is at Weidner and was named rookie of the year in the MAC for basketball.  She will be running in the spring for them,  Nikki Baccala – Throws Jav and Shot.

Key returners:
3 returning district qualifiers
Nikki O’Donnell – 12 – 400 meters and captain; was the anchor indoors on the relay that went 4:07.98 qualifying for indoor states. She is the only returning district qualifier
Moira O’Malley – 10 – High jump and Sprints; Indoor National Qualifier off a jump of 5’ 6” she hit at the Burdette Meet. This kid was born to high jump and she is just starting to realize how good she really can be.  Worked incredibly hard in the offseason to achieve some serious improvement. Member of the 4x400 team that went to the indoor state meet.
Michayla Brodish – 12 – Hurdles – 16.32 personal best last year to qualify for Districts.  She will need to have a strong year for us to pick up some of the points lost to Gallagher’s graduation.

Others to watch:
Sue Frustino – 10 – 400, 200 – This year is going to be Sue’s coming out party.  She is a very talented athlete who is just now starting to see the benefit of her hard work.  Ran a 60 point relay split indoors and I expect her to run under 60 right away outdoors.  She will be used in several of the sprints.
Cara Jackson – 10 – 400, 300 hurdles; Cara rounded out the 4x400 relay.  I’m asking her to branch out into the 300 hurdles and I think she is going to be a great fit.
Sydney Braeunig – 9th – 100, 200 – Sydney is one of the few pure sprinters we have gotten out for the team and I’m looking to her to lead the short sprinting over the next few seasons.

Strengths:“There were a group of 23 girls who made a strong commitment in the fall and into the winter that are seeing marked improvement.  Every year the program has improved and there are more girls who understand the training tempo that has to occur for the team to move in the right direction.  I am really excited to see what happens over the next two months, and over the next few years.”

Question marks:  “We are trying to establish ourselves in what I believe to be the toughest conference in the toughest district in the state.  The girls are learning what it is going to take from them to make an impact in this conference, and it is going to take time.  This year we will see more district qualifiers than we have had in a while and I’m working to keep building off each success.”
Outlook:  “I’m looking for an improvement at three and four this season. Production from my younger athletes will be key.”

Opening meet:Tuesday 3/24 @ Central Bucks East.  They are a very strong team right now across the board.  I’m looking to test some of our best kids that day, but they are going to give us all we can handle.
