Upper Moreland Girls' Lacrosse Preview

UPPER MORELAND GIRLS’ LACROSSE PREVIEW

Coach:  Karen Grossi (5th year)

Assistant coaches:  Crystal Bernard, Kelly Meissner, and Karen Illuminati (Volunteer)

Last year’s record:  4-14 overall, 1-11 league

Notable losses:  Kathryn Brunner

Key returners:   Maddie Mauro (12/attack), Lily Sgro (12/midfield), Brooke Burman (11/defense), Ashley Duff (11/midfield), Veronica Baez (10/midfield)

Others to watch:  Ashley Duff (11/midfield), Sarah Reice (11/defense), Melissa Felicetti (10/defense)

Strengths/Question Marks:  “This year’s roster of 23 girls is quite small and only includes two seniors.  Because of our team’s size, any injury or illness will have a huge effect on our team.  Overall, our team is still quite young, more than half of the team is a freshman or sophomore.  On a positive note, our Varsity roster has seen little change since last year, since the three seniors we graduated last year were unable to play the last few games due to injuries.   Additionally, unlike previous years, none of the girls are new to the sport of lacrosse, and almost of them have played on our township youth teams.”

Outlook:  “The girls all get along well and they have positive attitudes and great work ethics.  At the end of last season, they were excited by how much they improved since the prior season.  This year, they are all looking forward to working hard to ensure that we continue to improve.  We’re looking forward to keeping games more competitive, and like most teams, we are also looking to improve upon last year’s record.”

GAMES TO WATCH:  Over the past two seasons, all of our games against Norristown were very exciting.  I expect the same this year.
