Today the Cheltenham boys and girls Cross Country team hosted Upper Moreland in an SOL match up at Curtis Arboretum. The Panthers beat the Golden Bears on both the boys side (15-47) and the girls side (15-50).
William Edgar led the Panther's charge to victory with a 16:52. Edgar finished 30 a good 30 seconds in front of the next 4 finishers (all from Cheltenham). The top Golden Bear finisher was Christian Feil. Feil broke the 18 minute barrier for the first time this year. "This course is a little bit shorter than last week, but it has a lot more hills so the fact that everyone dropped at least 30 seconds shows that they are working hard and improving." "Christian was up with their top kids but let them get away from him a little bit and he knows that he has more in him. The guys battled the entire time. Nick and Chicken were within striking distance of each other the entire time, same with John and Chase. Loovve and Jack also ran really strong races and pr'ed. Next week we go to Springfield and those that ran there last year remember their course and liked it so, we hope for another good week."
In the girls race, Upper Moreland's Melody McDonough won the race with a personal all-time best time. "I saw Mel go past at the mile mark and she looked smooth, strong and focused. She made a business decision early in the race and it worked. She has really worked hard and got herself in a position to do well week in and week out."
