Sophomore forward, Maeve Link, got the ball rolling on an unassisted goal in the first quarter at the 3:20 mark, to put Abington on the board.
The offense came alive in the 2nd quarter and put 4 more unanswered goals on the board. Senior mid-fielder Oliva Dougherty scored on a corner at the 9:23 mark. She converted the goal from a series of passes between sophomore mid-fielder Carly Hughes to Maeve Link. Hughes then converted on a goal, shortly after, at the 7:48 mark, unassisted. Senior forward, Skylar Beal then added a spark on the offensive end by first scoring at the 5:30 mark, off an assist from senior forward, Sharon Griffin. Beal then added an assist to Link, who scored again at the 1:50 mark, putting Abington up 5-0 at half.
Lower Moreland came out in the 2nd half and continued to play us very well and kept the pressure on. They were able to score 2 goals and made us work to maintain our lead.
Senior mid-fielder, Oliva Dougherty was key throughout the entire game in helping control the tempo of the game for Abington. She was instrumental on the offensive end in helping create scoring opportunities, as well as on the defensive end, in preventing goals for Lower Moreland. Maeve Link also had an exceptional offensive game, in both creating scoring opportunities and converting on goals.
Junior goalie, Caitlin Murcar, played well in goal and recorded 7 saves for the win.
It was a great team win today for Abington! I was really proud of how everyone contributed to this win today. The girls are really coming together as a team and have been playing really great hockey, these past few games.
