Upper Moreland Comments
Knowing that this could be the last game of the season, Upper Moreland gave it their all! These players have worked so hard all season at improving and changing the culture of Upper Moreland Field Hockey! Today’s score was disappointing, but that should not take away from the effort of every player on the field.
Upper Dublin scored quickly off a corner in the first quarter, but just as quickly, Captain senior Cambrie Richmond gained control of the midfield getting the ball up the field. Maggie Morrow played one of the best games of her senior season, along with seniors Ava Bailey and Olivia Meakim. We tend to be a “breakaway team” getting the ball up to these players and today, Bailey, Meakim and Morrow worked well together, but just could not put it in the goal. We will surely miss this forward trio next season!
Then after another goal with 5 minutes left in the first quarter, UM was playing back on their heels, playing more defensively. UD’s # 19 was one of the fastest players we have seen all season and she tried to set up their scoring opportunities, but Eowyn Stainback did a great job containing her and stopping UD’s drives to goal.
Izzy Duncan led the team in defensive tackles for the Bears. In the circle, Kelly Bates often got the ball out of the circle single handedly by dribbling along the endline and getting UD to foul or sending it up to the attack. Melissa Torpey was fearless and aggressive, challenging UD’s attackers. Ella Gould played well offensively and defensively all over the field.
In goal under a lot of pressure, Ash Conrad had 11 saves, while Tierney Hogan made 8 saves.
